The Rocketbox Pro uses a push button to release the latches of the box after it is unlocked via the key. The locking mechanism it also straight forward, simple and effective. The box was on and ready to go within a few minutes. The Rocketbox Pro uses a simple oversized wing-nut to close the jaws of the clamp on to the crossbars.

Once assembled the box was a piece of cake to install to the cross bars. Not a big deal but it required the use of a little rubbing alcohol to clean it off. When the tape is removed a sticky residue is left behind on the box. The only challenge in the assembly process is that a lot of the parts are held to the box for shipping with masking tape. All kidding aside I am sure these are very important tips and none of them should be done at anytime.

Do look at the instruction manual as there are some awesome illustrations of what not to do with your new Rocketbox Pro, I will admit I did laugh at a few of them and they reminded me of the Flight Safety manual on Fight Club. Arrow shaped clips which are labeled with the corresponding letter allow you to get the box together with barely a glance at the well illustrated instruction manual. Yakima has made this task as simple as possible. The box does require a bit of assembly out of the box. The 24" width left more than enough room on my crossbars to keep my FatCat 4 ski rack on the other side, giving me both options for my equipment and added capacity/storage. Boasting a cargo capacity of 11 cubic feet and measuring 89" L x 24" W x 16" H this box has all the space needed for a the entire families ski equipment or camping gear. This new model in the Yakima value priced, Rocketbox, line that has great styling and well thought out features. This season I have been using the newly redesigned Yakima Rocketbox Pro 11. Therefore, extra storage on the vehicle is always welcome.

  • Press the key latch box flush against the box.
  • Insert the red button tabs with the housing in the key latch box.
  • Insert the spring into the Key Latch Box in the circle that holds it.

    Key Latch Backside Inside of Key Latch Box They can be sanded or Dremeled slightly to allow them to pass freely by each other. If the key has regained full motion, these parts running into each other are most likely the cause. First, check that the key has returned to a full range of motion when the Key Latch box is removed from the system.

    During this movement along the drive bar, the top of the hoop (with the hole and silver bar in it) can make contact with the inside of the black box).Ĥ) To eliminate this contact: remove the Key Latch Box by removing all 3 Torx Screws and sliding the Key Latch box to the side of the working components. Unlocking this mechanism slides the black piece of nylon behind the button, allowing the button to pivot the silver drive bar. When re-tightening the screws, make sure not to overtighten, as this can flex the plastic and cause the issue to re-occur.

    This should lift one of the parts out of the way. There are 3 boltsįirst, try loosening these bolts, lifting the black box on the drive bar with the outer handle mechanism and re-tightening the screws.

  • You can separate the inner and outer latch mechanism with a T10 Torx wrench.

    This PDF should provide a few options to troubleshoot this issue and get the box operational. If your Rocketbox handle is allowing the key to turn part way, but not fully, it may be that 2 parts are colliding inside the box handle. This only applies to the Rocketbox Pro's, with the Red circular button that is pushed to open the lid.
